Freelance 1 Day® Website Writer

We’re looking for experienced freelance writers to participate in Bizzy Bizzy’s 1 Day® Website service!

  • 2+ years of experience in writing website / marketing copy for clients or commensurate writing experience (e.g. newspaper reporting).
  • Portfolio of past writing samples.
  • Proficiency with computers and word processing software.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.

Here’s Who We Are Looking For:

  • You are a strong communicator. You are comfortable interfacing directly with clients. Being clear and concise comes naturally to you both in written and verbal communication.
  • You are passionate about crafting a compelling story. When interviewing a client you have a way to draw out the most interesting details about their business. You can identify the most important elements of what they have to say and translate jargon into website copy that is easy to understand and appeals to their audience.
  • You understand that meeting the customer’s needs doesn’t always mean that what you write will be the final copy. You’re comfortable taking feedback and incorporating it into future iterations of your work.
  • You have a basic understanding of writing for search engines such as Google or you are excited to learn.
  • Working with a team in a collaborative environment appeals to you. You enjoy both teaching others and learning from others.
  • You are efficient and tech savvy. Shortcuts are essential to your workflow, and you thrive under tight deadlines.

What’s This 1 Day Thing All About?

Bizzy Bizzy is a small but mighty web design and branding agency in Madison, WI. We have a unique way of working with our clients. Our 1 Day® services are designed for fast-growing companies who want to accelerate their brands. We collaborate with our clients in real time with innovative tools in an interactive process. Our work is fun!

By working in real time and eliminating all the emailing back and forth for weeks or months, we can help clients launch their websites faster than ever before. Our 1 Day® Website methodology delights and educates clients, letting them become a part of the creative process.

By participating in the 1 Day® Website, you’ll work in a high energy, collaborative environment with a team of creatives. But the best part is you don’t have to deal with project management or sit around wondering if the project will ever end. Plus, you’ll get paid right away!

1 Day® Website Logistics:

A typical 1 Day® Website is an all-day affair on Zoom or at the Bizzy Bizzy office (depending on the client’s location). We begin at 9:00am sharp, so we ask that you be 10 minutes early. We usually finish up for the day about 6:15pm.

Our address is 2002 Atwood Ave. Suite 202 – Madison, WI 53704

Free street parking is available on Rusk or other side streets nearby where you can leave your vehicle all day (sorry, we can’t park in the lot by the building).

Dress code is business casual. Jeans are OK with a nice shirt. Jeans + t-shirt might be too casual unless it’s a Bizzy Bizzy tee. If you want one, let us know your size!

Agenda / Roles

Typically, we will have 1 creative director, 1 writer, 1 web designer and 1 web developer (you) all participating in the 1 Day® Website sessions working directly with the client. Each project is different, so there may be more or fewer people.

This is a truly collaborative environment. Everyone should feel comfortable asking the client questions directly and asking for help when needed. Each person will be responsible for a general set of tasks, but the workflow will be flexible depending on the time constraints and the specific needs of the client.

Your job as the writer is to interview the client and create the written text for the website (typically 3-5 pages of copy) based on that interview. Then you’ll work with the client and creative director on any edits or revisions.

On the day of the event, contractors should follow our standard process and procedures whenever applicable. If you have ideas that would make the work flow or outcomes better, please suggest them! This process will evolve over time, and we appreciate your feedback.

What to Bring

  1. Laptop with charger (important!)
It’s an all-day event, so you will definitely need to be plugged in.
  2. Software: We’ll be sharing files via Google Drive and Google Docs for file sharing, so you’ll need a Gmail / Google registered account for that. If you don’t have one, we can set you up.
  3. A Positive Attitude
Collaboration is the name of the game in the 1 Day® Website world, so come ready for a fun, high-energy day of working directly with a client and your team. Let’s set some goals and crush them together!
  4. Your Full Attention
We will be packing a lot of important things into a very short amount of time, so we need you to be fully present. This means taking the day off of other work and responsibilities. There will be breaks during the day when you will be free to check your texts, emails and social media, but plan to be busy nearly all day.

What We’ll Provide

Monitors: We have external monitors available with HDMI cords if you would like to use an additional screen.

Breakfast and Lunch: For in-person 1 Days, we provide light breakfast in the morning and we’ll order in lunch for everyone from a local restaurant. Please let us know if you have any special dietary restrictions. We have coffee, tea and water available but feel free to bring other beverages.

Let us know if there are other tools that would make your day more productive or comfortable.

Payment

Freelancers who work on the 1 Day® Websites are 1099 contractors, so we will need you to fill out a W-9 form and a standard privacy agreement and non-solicitation form before your first gig with us.

The pay scale is determined by how many 1 Day® Websites you have under your belt. It is possible to skip the requirements and be “promoted” to the next pay level based on your experience or by exhibiting outstanding performance.

To get paid, just submit an invoice after the 1 Day® Website to info@bizzybizzycreative.com, and we will get a check right away!

Your first 1 Day® Website will be participating as an extra writer, helping in any way you can. You’ll mainly observe, but you are definitely welcome to participate in the interview, help brainstorm ideas, etc.
